An engineer and a salesman meet
Henry Royce’s engineering work met Charles Rolls’s commercial ambitions in 1904. Their partnership created an automobile marque distinct from today’s aerospace company. Early reliability demonstrations helped establish the Silver Ghost reputation, while the Rolls-Royce name became associated with refined engineering and individual coachbuilt bodies.

The contemporary Rolls-Royce Motor Cars business began production at Goodwood in 2003 under BMW Group. Phantom, Ghost and Cullinan serve different customer needs, with bespoke commissions central to the offering. The later Spectre brings battery-electric propulsion into that same model of hand-built luxury.

Charles Sykes’s Spirit of Ecstasy became the official mascot in 1911. In 2020 a new illustration and abstract Expression graphic expanded its role in brand communications. The physical mascot was redesigned in 2022 for Spectre’s aerodynamic requirements; neither development means that every historic figurine had the same proportions.
