The story behind Mini.

BMW Group’s British-origin compact-car brand, combining Cooper body styles with the Countryman utility vehicle.

Small outside, inventive inside

The classic Mini arrived in 1959 with Alec Issigonis’s space-saving transverse-engine layout. Austin and Morris versions initially carried different badges. Its packaging created a distinctive small-car formula, while Cooper performance versions connected the practical design to motorsport and a new kind of enthusiast following.

A new MINI under BMW

BMW’s modern MINI launched in 2001 as a premium small car with a strong link to the original design. The range later grew into additional body styles and the Countryman SUV. The current U.S. family consists of two-door and four-door Coopers, a convertible and Countryman, including an electric version.

Wings become a single brand signature

Classic Mini badges varied by manufacturer and era; a uniform modern MINI identity should not be projected backwards over all of them. The 2001 winged emblem adopted a dimensional treatment. A flat communication mark arrived in 2015, and the reduced emblem reached vehicle applications from March 2018.
