The story behind GMC.

A General Motors brand focused on pickups, SUVs, commercial vehicles and electric trucks and utility vehicles.

A commercial-truck foundation

GM’s early acquisitions included Rapid, Reliance and Randolph, businesses associated with GMC’s origins. A January 1912 General Motors Truck Company advertisement already displays the GMC name above gasoline and electric trucks. The early record matters: electrification is part of GMC’s history as well as its present product plans.

Denali changes the meaning of a utility vehicle

Denali first appeared on the 1999 Yukon. Its richer materials and distinctive grille moved GMC’s working-vehicle background into a more premium position. Later Denali Ultimate versions added another level of trim, but Denali remains a designation within GMC model families rather than a separate vehicle brand.

HUMMER returns inside GMC

GMC announced HUMMER’s all-electric return in 2020. The pickup and SUV use the HUMMER name while belonging to the GMC range, alongside Sierra EV and conventional trucks and SUVs. This is a nameplate revival inside a continuing brand, not the re-establishment of the earlier standalone HUMMER business.
