The story behind Genesis.

Hyundai Motor Company’s luxury brand, offering sedans, SUVs and electric vehicles through a developing U.S. retail network.

From a Hyundai model name to a separate marque

Hyundai announced Genesis as a standalone luxury brand in November 2015. The new business used the earlier Genesis sedan as a foundation but established its own naming structure, design identity and service proposition. The announcement also specified a redesigned wing-type emblem, so the model-name history and the independent-brand history should not be treated as the same start date.

G90 and the definition of Athletic Elegance

The first new Genesis-branded model was G90, unveiled in December 2015. Its proportions, crest grille and winged emblem expressed the brand’s Athletic Elegance approach. Later products turned these ideas into a recognizable family, with Two Lines lighting derived from the emblem rather than a unrelated decorative feature.

Sedans, SUVs and electric performance

Genesis’ U.S. range now combines three sedan families with SUVs and dedicated or adapted electric offerings. GV80 Coupe occupies a separate catalog position, while Electrified GV70 differs from its combustion sibling. GV60 Magma extends performance within the GV60 family. Future concepts remain part of the design story rather than the available model count.

The emblem becomes Two Lines

Genesis explains that the crest becomes the grille while the wings become the two-line lighting signature. This is an evolution of design language, not a newly dated logo revision.
