The story behind Alfa Romeo.

An Italian Stellantis brand with sport-oriented passenger cars and SUVs in its U.S. range.

Milan is written into the badge

A.L.F.A. was founded in Milan in June 1910. Its first engineer Giuseppe Merosi developed the early cars, while the emblem combined the city’s red cross with the Visconti serpent. Nicola Romeo’s involvement later added his surname to the company, preserving the Milan symbols inside a new name.

Racing and the postwar road car

Ugo Sivocci’s 1923 Targa Florio victory introduced the Quadrifoglio association. Alfa Romeo won the inaugural Formula One drivers’ championship with Giuseppe Farina in 1950, followed by Fangio in 1951. Postwar Giulietta and Giulia families translated that sporting reputation into a larger road-car business.

A badge that records expansion

The emblem gained a laurel wreath after the 1925 world championship, then lost the Milano wording when production expanded beyond Milan. The 2015 redesign simplified the shield for a new product era. In the U.S., Giulia, Stelvio and Tonale form distinct sedan and SUV families.
