The story behind Polestar.

A Swedish-origin electric-performance manufacturer; its U.S. site lists Polestar 3 and 4 and pre-owned Polestar 2 offerings.

Racing roots before the electric marque

Polestar traces its roots to a racing business founded in 1996, later becoming Volvo’s official performance partner. Volvo Car Group acquired the performance business in 2015. Those origins explain the name’s association with tuned Volvo cars before it became a separate electric-performance manufacturer.

Two products define the independent chapter

Polestar 1 was announced in 2017 as a limited-production plug-in hybrid grand tourer. Polestar 2 followed in 2019, with customer deliveries beginning in 2020. The transition joined performance experience to new manufacturing, digital retail and ownership systems rather than simply rebadging the earlier Volvo performance cars.

The star leaves its blue square

The new identity liberated the old star from its turquoise square and reduced it to two opposing wing forms. Typography and restrained colors were intended to let the product stand forward. The current U.S. site sells Polestar 3 and 4 as new cars, while Polestar 2 appears in its certified pre-owned offering.
