The story behind Jaguar.

A British luxury brand undergoing a product and design transition; the U.S. site emphasizes its next chapter and existing-owner support.

From Swallow to Jaguar

William Lyons and William Walmsley began the Swallow Side Car Company in Blackpool in 1922. Coachbuilding and complete cars followed, and the Jaguar name became the main operating identity in 1945. The early company’s journey was gradual: sidecars, bodies and sports saloons preceded the later luxury marque.

Sports cars and saloons at Browns Lane

Jaguar moved into Browns Lane in the early 1950s. Its growth included the Mark II, the E-type introduced in 1961 and the XJ6 in 1968. These were different expressions of the same engineering ambition, linking sporting performance to comparatively accessible luxury and distinctive proportions.

A new identity during a product transition

Jaguar unveiled its reimagined identity in November 2024, then the Type 00 design vision in December. The current U.S. site calls Type 01 a coming-soon four-door GT. Legacy model links persist, but that does not demonstrate a full current factory-order range; retailer inventory and future launches must be distinguished.
