Performance before the luxury label
W.O. Bentley founded the company in 1919 after working on aero engines. The 3 Litre and later Speed Six established a competition reputation, including Le Mans victories. F. Gordon Crosby’s Winged B used motion and flight as visual cues, connecting the new car company to its founder’s engineering background.

Rolls-Royce acquired Bentley in 1931 and production moved from Cricklewood to Derby. Crewe’s factory was built for Merlin aero engines, then began making cars in 1946. Volkswagen Group ownership from 1998 brought large investment into the site and the modern Bentley product business.

Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga define different parts of Bentley’s current catalog, with the GTC covering open-top grand touring. In 2025 the company unveiled only its fifth core emblem iteration. The new concept-car application is distinct from claiming that every existing production Bentley already carries it.
