History & Founding
Jim Ralph was born in 1942 in Portland, Oregon. After serving in the U.S. Army, he took a job as a salesman at a Chevrolet dealership. In 1967, with $8,000 in savings, he rented a small lot in Milwaukie and opened "Ralph's Used Cars." His wife Margaret handled the billing and scheduling. By 1972, the business was selling over 100 cars per month. In 1975, Jim secured his first new-car franchise: Toyota. Ralphs Toyota of Portland became the group's flagship store.
Jim's son Todd joined the business in 1992, starting as a lot attendant and working through sales, finance, and general management. He was named President in 2005 and became CEO in 2012 when Jim retired. The group expanded into Washington in 2014.
